Mississippians in the Battle for Omaha Beach – D-Day – June 6, 1944 - R. David Davison – April 6, 2025 - This June marks the 81st anniversary of D-Day, the invasion of Normandy. Learn the details of the 18 hours that was “Bloody Omaha”. Of the five invasion beaches, it was here that the German defenses were the strongest, the allied casualties the greatest and the chance of success the most in doubt. The courage and sacrifice of the individual American soldier needs to be recognized again and again, and there is no better example of that courage and sacrifice than the Battle for Omaha Beach. All told through the experiences of ten Mississippians who were there.
